In September my new doll offerings will be released during my annual Izannah Walker Birthday Celebration on September 25th! So no Third Thursday in September 🙂
Assistant shopkeepers Hannah and Isabeau have set up the shipping department on the kitchen table… The girls are very organized, they have boxes, packing materials, and a cart – all ready to load with parcels for a trip to the post office.Josephine has been spending her time composing advertisements for the shoppe. “Mistress Walton begs leave to inform her Friends and the Public in general that she intends opening a Pop-Up Shoppe on Tuesday, the 13th inst. with a new and elegant assortment of paper cuttings, stitchery, and love tokens… Mistress Walton takes this opportunity of returning thanks for the great patronage she has already received from her numerous friends… ” Josephine is a devoted reader and she found great inspiration in Advertisements for January, Ackerman’s Repository, Vol. XI, 1814
It has been a cold, snowy, ice covered week here in our sleepy little Connecticut home. Even a commute that is measured in yards, rather than miles, has been treacherous. So rather than working in either of my studios, the dolls and I have been sitting in front of the fire cutting silhouettes. ❤
sketching the outlines for new silhouettes…
Last evening we finally finished hand graining all the frames, mounting the silhouettes and framing them. Now that they are completed we are all ready to open our Valentine Pop-Up Shoppe ❤
MISTRESS WALTON’S VALENTINE POP-UP SHOPPE
Most of our various offerings are one of a kind. You’ll notice that several of them are similar, but have different details, varying frames, etc… Each item offered for sale has an item number and price. Free priority mail shipping is included to all U.S. addresses. Exact postage – no handling fees – are charged to foreign addresses. Connecticut residents will be charged 6.35 % sales tax. Payment may be made via Paypal, personal check or lay-away. All items sold on a first come basis. You may email me at paula@asweetremembrance.com with questions or to claim an item. If more than one person wishes to buy a particular item, I will go by the time stamp when your email is received to determine the 1st request.
A note about the photos, because of the glass there are some reflections in the photos. I also had a problem with static electricity and dust. I dusted, and dusted and dusted some more, but every time I looked again there were little dust particles on the outside of the glass… Needless to say, all of the silhouettes look so much nicer in person :).

These are my 2nd release of 200th Birthday dolls. Both Ismay (left) and Anna (right) are being offered undressed for all of you seamstresses who would like the pleasure of creating their wardrobes ❤
Welcome to Saturday night in my studio! This is the final installment in my Izannah Walker 200th Birthday celebration. Tonight I’m offering two undressed dolls, an 18.5 inch tall black Ismay and a 16 inch tall Anna (yes I DID say 17 inches in the video, because they are usually 17 inches, but she looked a bit petite, so I measured and she is 16 inches tall). For this milestone birthday observance, the dolls I introduced on Monday featured antique clothing. Since tonight’s dolls do not have any clothing, my birthday treat on these dolls is a $200.00 discount if they are purchase this weekend. This special birthday pricing expires at midnight (Eastern Time) tomorrow night, October 1st.
Dolls are sold on a first come basis. Dolls will be sold to the first person sending an email request to purchase each doll to paula@asweetremembrance.com . If for any reason the sale falls through, then the next person in line will be contacted. Payment by Paypal, credit card, personal check or lay-away.
Do you remember the instructions that I posted on Monday for making a classic mid-19th century dress for your Izannah Walker doll? I posted them, in part, because I knew that I would be offering these two dolls especially for all of the dress makers among you. ❤ Creating wardrobes for these dolls is such fun! Searching for just the right fabric, buttons and trims can become rather addictive. Both dolls will come with a copy of my Izannah Walker Doll Clothes Pattern.
This is also an excellent way to budget your doll expenses. You can bring one of these dolls home right now to enjoy, then slowly add a wardrobe for her. If you don’t wish to create a wardrobe for your doll, you can have fun shopping for her at my “Third Thursdays”, where I have both dolls and doll clothing for sale. ❤
Ismay – $1000.00 – Special Birthday Pricing! $800.00 – You have one custom option on this doll, I can paint a stripe of any color you request at the top edge of her boots.
AnnaAnna7curls
Anna – $1050 – Special Birthday Pricing! $850.00 – Your custom option on this doll is her hairline. I was going to just paint feathery wisps around her face, but I decided to wait and give anyone buying her this weekend the chance to choose between wisps around her face or curls in front of her ears. If you decide on curls you may also choose a wavy, straight or winged hairline. At the moment she only has one coat of paint on her hair. Once the 2nd coat is added her hair will be darker and will not be transparent.
Thank you for coming to visit! Ismay and Anna are very pleased to have made your acquaintance. ❤
SOLD Meet Anna. She is available for sale and would be thrilled to come join your doll family.
Welcome to my annual Izannah Walker birthday party! This year the dolls and I have a fun filled three day celebration planned. We are so pleased that you could come join us for the start of the party. I will be posting throughout the day today, with additional posts at 9:00 a.m., noon, and 4:00 p.m. Eastern time. Come back tomorrow and Sunday for new posts at 10:00 a.m. & 4:00 p.m.
1 Finished Doll For Sale – Now SOLD – Thank You so much for looking!
ANNA IS NOW SOLD. I have one doll made from my Anna mold available for sale. She is a very sweet, worn and well loved doll. Just the right size at 17 inches to be a little sister to other Izannahs in your collection. She has short wispy hair framing her face and tickling the nape of her neck. This Anna is dressed in an amazing antique red print fabric that I found in Brimfield in May. The fabric had never been washed until yesterday and even after one gentle washing still retains it’s crisp sizing. All three pieces of her undergarments are trimmed in tatting. Her short black scallop topped painted boots are embellished with a red scallop outline. As a birthday special she comes with a tiny antique tintype image of a young girl. When you imagine the story of Anna’s life, perhaps this little girl will become her original owner…
Anna can be yours for $1250.00, which includes free insured shipping to any U.S. address. Actual shipping charged to other countries. As always you may place Anna, or any of my dolls on lay-away. Call me at 860-355-5709 during normal business hours, or email me anytime at paula@asweetremembrance.com if you have any questions about this doll or would like to purchase her.
Introducing Two New Reproduction Izannah Walker Dolls
I am very happy to tell you that I now have two more molds! I made these molds, just like all of my others, directly from original antique Izannah Walker dolls. This means that I can offer you ten different authentic, all cloth, historically accurate reproduction Izannah Walker dolls!
Pictured below are the four dolls that I will be working on during the next three days as part of my Izannah celebration. After all what better way is there for a doll maker to mark the birthday of her very favorite doll maker than by paying homage to her by reproducing some of her amazing dolls! If you’d like to follow along with my progress you can check in at my facebook page to see the dolls coming to life. Click here to visit A Sweet Remembrance in facebook.
Lily
I am able to offer you reproductions of Lily due to the amazing generosity of my friend Susie, who owns the real Lily. I am currently in the midst of doing restoration on the original Lily and Susie very kindly told me that she wanted me to make a mold from her while she was here. I’ll be chronicling Lily’s restoration journey here in the upcoming weeks. Lily has a very classic Izannah head and at 17 inches is the middle stair step between my Isabeau and Izzybelle.
This first Lily will be going home with her older sister and namesake ❤
A Second Lily
This Lily will be available for sale for $1250.00 when she is completed. She will come with a full four piece wardrobe which includes a chemise, pantalettes, peticoat and a dress, with painted boots.
Lily 2 will be available for sale.Lily 2Lily 2
Hannah
Hannah recently came to join my Izannah family from the collection of another of my dear friends, Edyth. ❤ I’m honored that she has entrusted me with one of her treasures.
Hannah is 18 inches tall and has such a sweet expression. Just like Lily #2, both of these Hannahs will be for sale once I have finished them. Yes, they also cost $1250.00, have painted boots and come with a full set of clothing made from antique fabrics and notions. 🙂
If you have any questions about these dolls, or would like to purchase one of them, please call me (860-355-5709 during east coast business hours) or email me (paula@asweetremembrance.com anytime). As a special birthday treat Isabeau, Zanna, Ismay, Isane, Izzybelle and the original Hannah have been busy piecing together quilt tops to go along with the Lilys and Hannahs that are purchased during this three day weekend. More about their quilting party later on… Just one more reason to keep checking back in through out the next three days 🙂
Feeling Creative?
For anyone who has the urge to try making an Izzy of their own I currently have two of my Izannah Kits ready to go.
A full instruction book + patterns comes with each head. The unpainted head/kit is $200 and the painted head/kit is $375.
Notice all of the paint texture of the original antique doll is captured in this composition head.
Furniture Tag Sale
The girls were all very enamored of the article they read in Antique Doll Collector about an Izannah Doll House. So when I asked them what they would like to include in our birthday weekend they all resoundingly said “Let’s have a tag sale of all of the doll furniture, so other Izannahs can furnish a doll house too!” Consequently all of my antique doll furniture is on sale at 10% off from 9/25 – 9/27. The sale price does include free shipping to U.S. addresses. Click here to shop the furniture sale.
Zanna is in charge of setting up the tag sale & Izzybelle is helping tie on the price tags!
That’s All For Now…
Come back to see us at 9:00 a.m. eastern time for our continuing birthday party adventures.
Ismay and Zanna are counting how many hours are left until my Special Christmas Sale ends…. “If the sale ends at midnight on New Year’s Eve and it’s after 5:00 now…” “How many hours is that Zanna?”
If your New Year’s resolution is to learn something new, and you were thinking of ordering one of my classes by mail, my new Izannah Doll Kit, or my Izannah doll clothes pattern they are only on sale for the next 53 hours, until midnight December 31st, 2014. To make my new kits extra special for the Christmas sale, your Kit order will include one tiny cut and stitch Isane panel so that you can make your doll a little Izzy of her own. Plus, you receive a coupon for 10 percent off any of my classes by mail or a finished reproduction Izannah Walker doll, through June 30, 2015. Visit my website A Sweet Remembrance to shop the sale.
Also don’t forget …
!!!CONTEST!!!
I’ve thought up lots of ways to use my new printed fabric doll panels, but I bet you can dream up even more great ideas of your own! Just for fun, I’m having a contest to see who can design and make the best project using my printed doll panels. The rules are simple. Buy a doll panel, make it into something wonderful, take a photo and email it to me – paula@asweetremembrance.com – before January 31st, 2015. I’ll post all of the photos on my blog, then invite readers to vote for their favorite. The winner will receive one panel each of my complete collection of tiny cut out and stitch fabric dolls, which is a prize worth $100. Good Luck!!!
The girls spent this morning helping out around my office. We are busy getting all of the classes people have ordered during my Christmas Sale made and ready to ship.
Isane and Isabeau are manning the phone and answering questions… “Yes, we do ship your classes for free if you live in the U.S.”
“Zanna, when I count to three, we both jump on the hole punch at the same time.” “One, two…”
“Izzybelle, make sure you have the holes lined up with the rings.” “I will Ismay. Do you think someone in the class will make a doll that looks like me?”
“Let’s take a break.” “We really got a lot done this morning.” “I’m sure we were a big help!”
“Wasn’t it nice of Mary, Anna and Pauline to bake us a Christmas treat?” “Anna and Pauline are such good cooks.”
If you are a long time customer and blog reader, you’ll know that I always try to have some sort of sale at Christmas time as a way of saying Thank You to everyone for all of your support, encouragement and friendship throughout the year. I have the very best customers and students in the world!!!
This year I’ve put my all of my classes by mail, which include my new Izannah Doll Kit, and my Izannah doll clothes pattern on sale through December 31st, 2014. Making the heads for the kits has gone better than I thought it would, so I’ve managed to fill all of my waiting list orders and I’ve shortened the shipping time 🙂 Don’t feel bad for the people who ordered before the sale, as I’ve done something special for them too, so they didn’t miss out! If you’d like to buy a kit as a gift for someone else, I have a couple up on eBay and one over on Etsy that can ship immediately. If you are buying one as a Christmas treat for yourself, take advantage of the sale and order one now so you’ll have a fun new project to start on in the New Year! ❤
Since the kits are the “hot” new item, I wanted to make them extra special for Christmas. So as a special bonus during the Christmas Sale, your Kit order includes one tiny cut and stitch Isane panel so that you can make your doll a little Izzy of her own. Plus, you receive a coupon for 10 percent off any of my classes by mail or a finished reproduction Izannah Walker doll, through June 30, 2015. The two kits for sale on eBay at the moment are straight up auctions and don’t include the bonus items, but I did start the price lower for a true auction, so you may be able to grab a great deal ❤
I’ve received a few great questions from customers and eBay bidders about my Izannah Walker Doll Making Kits, so I am sharing them here:
12/16 – One more excellent question – Thanks Judy!!!
Q: Can I paint the composition head with acrylic paints instead of oils?
A: Yes. You will get a slightly different, drier look without the soft edges of oils, but you may certainly use acrylic paint if you prefer.
12/11 update – Here is another very good Q & A:
Q:
Does your kit include instructions on how to paint the doll? Thank you
Dec-11-14
A:
Yes, there are 5 pages devoted to paint, which include what to buy, how to mix colors, what steps to take when painting the face, and some tips and tricks of the trade. There are also many color photographs for you to look at of my antique Izannah Walker dolls and my reproduction Izannahs. What the instructions don’t do is teach you HOW to paint. You need to have quite a bit of painting experience. One of the most beloved and distinctive parts of an Izannah Walker doll is the paint. To make a good reproduction Izannah, you need good painting skills. You need to be able to paint very tiny fine lines, you need to know about mixing oil paints (you could use acrylics – but you will not get the same look), you need to know dry brush techniques, etc. If you don’t feel that you have the experience or confidence to paint the doll’s head, you may commission me to paint the head for you – PAINTING IS NOT PART OF THIS AUCTION, it is a separate service that I offer. The fee for a custom painted head is $175.00. Naturally painting the head does take extra time, so I can not ship painted heads as quickly and my current work schedule, which is extremely busy over Christmas, is also a factor. I hope this answers your question, but if not please feel free to contact me again. Thank you very much for your interest in my kit! Paula
Q:
Can the head be covered with a stockinette before painting to get that look?
Dec-07-14
A:
I would not recommend doing that. If you cover it with stockinette you will lose many of the details of the original surface. Because I made the mold for the composition head directly from the antique doll the surface of the composition head does show tiny areas of stockinette, worn paint, and all other time worn finishes of the original doll. The head will look more like a real Izannah Walker doll if you paint directly on to the composition and do not add a layer of fabric. If there are any areas of the head that you want to fill in, to make the doll look newer, you can do so with air drying clay. The head may also be sanded. Paula
Q:
Is this head in the Kit smaller than the original Izannah Doll. It appears to be so in the Photo. THANKS
Dec-08-14
A:
Hi, It is slightly smaller since the mold is the exact same size as the real head and the composition slip does have a shrinkage rate of about 5% as it dries. The real doll is 19 inches tall. The kit makes a doll that is approx. 18 inches tall due to the slightly smaller head and the fact that the real antique doll has had her legs replaced with Martha Chase legs. The pattern included in the kit has Izannah Walker legs, which I drafted from other 18 inch tall antique Izannah Walker dolls that I own. The finished reproduction dolls with pressed cloth heads that I make and sell have heads that are the exact same size as the antique dolls because the layered cloth/paste/cotton (which is the way the real dolls were made) does not shrink like slip does. Paula
Q: Do you know that there is someone else who just started selling Izannah Walker doll kits? Dec-08-14
A: Yes 🙂 I do know that someone just bought a well known doll maker’s molds and fabric and is now making reproduction dolls with composition heads. A few days ago, she also began selling doll kits that include composition heads.
Kind of confusing isn’t it? I believe in being very honest and straight forward about what I sell. So if you are thinking about buying a kit and are trying to compare them, here are a few things that are different between the two:
– My kit makes an 18 inch tall doll. The other kit has heads that make a 15-16 inch doll.
– My kit includes a professionally printed 31 page instruction book and 13 pages of printed patterns. The other kit is currently being sold with emailed instructions and patterns sent in an electronic file. The buyers would need to print the pattern pieces (and optionally the instructions) themselves.
– My doll clothing patterns include two dresses, two petticoats, a chemise and pantalettes, all of which were drafted from original clothing belonging to one of my antique Izannah Walker dolls.
– My kit includes numerous color photos of Isane, the actual antique doll whose head I used to make the molds for the composition head. They are included in my instruction book for reference when painting your doll.
– I have just one doll head, Isane, available in kit form. I am only making finished dolls with pressed cloth heads from my seven other molds. I will also still be making dolls with pressed cloth heads from Isane’s mold. The Australian kit has three choices of heads, one of which is Isane, the doll I now own (labeled Patience in that kit).
– If you are a bit nervous about painting the head that comes with your kit, you can commission me to paint it for you. I’ve been making and painting Izannahs for years and I love painting them. You may choose any hair style plus other custom options. Here are some examples of how I paint Isane.
Those are about all of the differences I can think of. No matter what your choice, I am sure you will enjoy making a reproduction Izannah Walker doll of your very own!
So there you have it! 🙂 Izannahphiles unite!!! The more people there are in the world making, collecting and loving Izannah Walker dolls, the happier place it will be! Happy doll making to each and every one of you ❤ and if you should wish to buy one of my classes or kits, or have any other questions about them, I will be very happy to hear from you. paula@asweetremembrance.com 860-355-5709
The dolls are reading through the American Girl’s Book to choose party games for today.
Today is the 197th anniversary of Izannah Walker’s birth! The dolls and I are having a day long party in her honor and we are so glad that you could join us for all of the fun. This is the first of three birthday party posts that I will be sharing with you today. Right now all of the dolls and I are getting ready for a very busy day. The kitchen is a hive of activity and last minute party planning is going on all over the house. So enjoy this first post and then come back later in the day to attend the festivities. At 1:00 p.m. Eastern time we will be having a picnic and later tonight (7 p.m. Eastern time) the dolls are having a sleep over. In between all of my Izannah Doll Making Class members will want to drop into the class site at 2 p.m. Eastern time for a few treats!
INVITE ONE OF THESE VERY SPECIAL BIRTHDAY GUESTS INTO YOUR HOME
If you would like to keep the party alive throughout the year in your own home, I have six dolls available for sale who would love to come live and play at your house. Any of these dolls sold during my Izannah birthday celebration come with an array of special party favors:
– a tiny thimble necklace so that they are always ready to play THE THIMBLE with you
– two sheets of my Izannah paper dolls
– a signed copy of the December 2013 issue of Early American Life magazine with a feature story about our home, so that your doll can show you where she was born
– a coupon for 50% off of an additional dress just in case she needs something special to wear later on in the year ( I am currently blessed with an over abundance of orders, so an Easter or 4th of July dress would be the earliest I would be able to do)
I’m only listing these six dolls here on my blog (rather than putting them up on my regular website too) during this four day celebration as a little extra thank you for all of the people on my mailing list and all of you loyal blog readers! 🙂
Five New Reproduction Izannahs For Sale
Here are five lively little Izannahs to tug at your heart! These will be the last dolls that I will be listing for sale before Christmas. I’ve had such a busy and bountiful year that I am fully booked up and committed until mid-May 2015 with special orders and custom work.
Isane #4
This young Isane #4 is approximately 18 inches tall. She has a red second skin covering her body and red painted boots with scalloped tops. Beneath her dress she wears a full set of undergarments. Some Izannahs have long dresses t]like women or older girls and others wear shorter skirts like young children. I’ve hemmed Isane #4’s dress long, but if you prefer it shorter, I would be happy to add a third growth tuck in the skirt. You may also request aging on her arms, legs and feet. I left them fairly new looking so that her new mom would have a choice. Isane #4 can be yours for $1250.00.
Ismay #1 SOLD
Meet Ismay! She is the very reproduction that I have made from the lovely antique Izannah Walker doll I bought at the UFDC convention in July. Ismay is 18 inches tall, has black scallop top painted boots and short wispy hair. You can adopt Isamy for $1250.00. ISMAY IS NOW SOLD.
Andrew #1
I seldom make boy Izannahs, even though I dearly love them. This young man is the first boy doll I’ve made from my Anna mold, but since I’m sure he would object to being called Anna, let’s refer to him as Andrew. 🙂 Andrew is about 17 inches tall and wears a very detailed costume that consist of a red plaid dress, trimmed in black velvet ribbons with a split skirt and matching trousers. He has side parted hair, tall black painted boots with red tops and comes with his paper party hat. Andrew is $1300.00 due to the intricacy of his clothing.
Zanna #7
Miss Zanna is 17- 1/2 inches tall. She has black painted boots with scallop tops and a second skin made from antique brown glazed cotton. Zanna can be yours for $1250.00.
Isabeau #9
Isabeau #9 is a bit shorter than her sisters. She is 17 inches tall, has red painted boots and a red glazed cotton second skin. Her adoption fee is $1250.00. If you love the bonnet she is wearing you may purchase it for an additional $100.00. You may also request a more aged appearance on the arms, legs and boots of this doll.
Isane and Isabeau are best friends and insisted on matching party dresses! I love the way they appear to be whispering secrets ❤
Breakfast
As a special birthday treat Isamy is making cinnamon toast for breakfast.
First Ismay butters the bread, then sprinkles it with cinnamon and sugar, before placing it under the broiler until the it hot and bubbly with nice crisp edges.
“We need a whole platter full of toast to feed the entire family.”“If you’d like to go make a cup of tea and some cinnamon toast for your own breakfast, we’ll wait to start eating breakfast until you get done.”
GAMES
Right after breakfast it was time to disscuss what games to play today at Izannah’s party. The dolls got out their favorite book The American Girl’s Book written by Eliza Leslie in 1831. I have to admit that it took them a very long time to agree on the games and I’m sad to say there was even some squabbling and a few tears.
After the games were chosen the older girls taught the younger ones how to play THE THIMBLE. Everyone enjoyed the game and congratulated themselves for making a good choice!
THE THIMBLE
The company sit in a row holding together the palms of their hands. Fanny takes a thimble or any thing else that is small and round, (for instance, a hazle-nut or shell bark) and holding it between her palms, she goes along the line, pretending to drop it secretly into their hands, saying to each “Hold fast what I give you.” Everyone opens her hands as if she was receiving the thimble, and closes them again immediately. Of course the thimble is only in reality deposited in one. For instance, Fanny leaves it in the hands of Lucy.
After Fanny has in this manner gone all along the row, she returns to the head and asks Mary, who is seated there, to guess who has the thimble. Mary guesses Jane, who opens her hands and shows that she has it not. They all guess in turn. Susan happens to guess Lucy; and this being right, Lucy displays the thimble and gives it to Susan. It is then Susan’s turn to take the thimble and go along the row with it.
Sometimes when this is played, a forfeit is required from every one that guesses wrong, and therefore a great number of pawns are speedily collected.
Let’s peek over their shoulder and see what other party games they have planned!
It looks like this will be perfect to play at tonight’s sleep over.
A few of the dolls have gone out to ransack my studio in the hopes of finding as many embroidery hoops as they can. They are just sure that they would make marvelous hoops for The Graces…It’s always good to be sure of the rules!Boys hats! How embarrassing!!!
Thank you for spending the morning with us! Don’t forget the the picnic is starting promptly at 1:00 o’clock (Eastern time). That will give you just enough time to change into your party frock. We’ll see you then!
