Welcome to my little cloth girl’s 16th annual tea party celebrationg the 209th anniversary of Izannah Walker’s birthday.
This year Izzybelle, Zanna, and Sarah Alice have taken over the kitchen. Zanna and Sarah Alice have been baking the doll’s favorite cinnamon crumb coffee cake & brewing sage tea. Meanwhile Izzybelle has been busy making her famous jam sandwiches, and only getting slightly sticky in the process… What is so famous about Izzybelle’s sandwiches you ask? They are legends in the doll’s house for the absolutely excessive amounts of jam that Izzybelle always attemps to slather inside each and every one!!!
Meanwhile all of the other sisters have been tidying the parlor, rearranging the furniture, and gathering armfuls of fresh hydrangias and feverfew to decorate the house.
Once all the food is ready and the rest of the house looks just right, all of the dolls gather together for the party. Everyone finds a comfortable chair, while Zanna and Sarah Alice bring in the teapot and party treats. Tilly Lamb lights the candles as everyone starts singing “Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you…” to their dearest creator and favorite dollmaker Izannah Walker, as they once again celebrate their very favorite day of the year!

This recipe for Cowboy Coffe Cake comes from my vintage Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook and has long been a family favorite in both my “big” house and the doll’s house too!
This has been a wonderful year for sage in my herb garden, so naturally the Izzies and I chose to make Sage Tea. I was given the recipe for Sage Tea at the first open hearth cooking class I took, shortly after moving to Conneticut in 1990. The original receipt calls for 1 cup of white wine, but you can also make it without. Zanna and I brewed today’s tea using the traditional version of the recipe, since the dolls are most definitely over legal drinking age. (even so the sisters only let Izzybelle have a scant half cup full of tea)

As you may have seen if you follow me on Facebook or Instagram I am currenty working on a sizable group of dolls. You may also have seen me mention that it has been an unusually damp and rainy spring and summer here in northwest Connecticut. Due to all of the persistent damp the drying times for the doll’s molded cloth heads and many layers of primers and paints are taking MUCH longer than normal. Plus the torrential rain has caused a great deal of erosion in all three of my bank barns, and all the the brick pathways in my large flower garden that sits in front of my painting studio.
I’ve had a contractor and workmen here installing two french drains, a curtain drain, a dry well, and totally remaking all of the wooden flower bed edging and relaying the bricks. So it’s been pretty chaotic here lately lol!
