A Trip to Brimfield Yields Treasures!

On Wednesday my husband and I made our annual trek to Brimfield, MA. Three times a year Brimfield is filled to capacity with dealers selling antiques, vintage items and collectibles of all kinds. We usually only go in May, although we have occasionally gone in July, when the weather is blisteringly hot. We’ve never managed to go up in September, since fall is a busy time for us…

Brimfield is usually one of my major buying trips for antique fabrics and trims. This year I found slightly less fabric, but bought more antique silk velvet ribbon than I’ve come across in a long time.

Another item I came away with in abundance was petticoats. Women’s petticoats, baby petticoats and doll petticoats!!!

I even found a doll size mohair coat ❤

The dolls were quite excited when I carried in several new pieces of furniture for their house. I was lucky enough to find a tiny 1850’s jelly cupboard, a stretcher base table with a wonderful Christmas inscription on the underneath side, and an amazing little rope bed.

All in all a very successful expedition!
Happy 198th Birthday Izannah Walker! – Part 1

Welcome to my annual Izannah Walker birthday party! This year the dolls and I have a fun filled three day celebration planned. We are so pleased that you could come join us for the start of the party. I will be posting throughout the day today, with additional posts at 9:00 a.m., noon, and 4:00 p.m. Eastern time. Come back tomorrow and Sunday for new posts at 10:00 a.m. & 4:00 p.m.
1 Finished Doll For Sale – Now SOLD – Thank You so much for looking!
ANNA IS NOW SOLD. I have one doll made from my Anna mold available for sale. She is a very sweet, worn and well loved doll. Just the right size at 17 inches to be a little sister to other Izannahs in your collection. She has short wispy hair framing her face and tickling the nape of her neck. This Anna is dressed in an amazing antique red print fabric that I found in Brimfield in May. The fabric had never been washed until yesterday and even after one gentle washing still retains it’s crisp sizing. All three pieces of her undergarments are trimmed in tatting. Her short black scallop topped painted boots are embellished with a red scallop outline. As a birthday special she comes with a tiny antique tintype image of a young girl. When you imagine the story of Anna’s life, perhaps this little girl will become her original owner…
Anna can be yours for $1250.00, which includes free insured shipping to any U.S. address. Actual shipping charged to other countries. As always you may place Anna, or any of my dolls on lay-away. Call me at 860-355-5709 during normal business hours, or email me anytime at paula@asweetremembrance.com if you have any questions about this doll or would like to purchase her.
Introducing Two New Reproduction Izannah Walker Dolls
I am very happy to tell you that I now have two more molds! I made these molds, just like all of my others, directly from original antique Izannah Walker dolls. This means that I can offer you ten different authentic, all cloth, historically accurate reproduction Izannah Walker dolls!
Pictured below are the four dolls that I will be working on during the next three days as part of my Izannah celebration. After all what better way is there for a doll maker to mark the birthday of her very favorite doll maker than by paying homage to her by reproducing some of her amazing dolls! If you’d like to follow along with my progress you can check in at my facebook page to see the dolls coming to life. Click here to visit A Sweet Remembrance in facebook.
Lily
I am able to offer you reproductions of Lily due to the amazing generosity of my friend Susie, who owns the real Lily. I am currently in the midst of doing restoration on the original Lily and Susie very kindly told me that she wanted me to make a mold from her while she was here. I’ll be chronicling Lily’s restoration journey here in the upcoming weeks. Lily has a very classic Izannah head and at 17 inches is the middle stair step between my Isabeau and Izzybelle.
This first Lily will be going home with her older sister and namesake ❤
A Second Lily
This Lily will be available for sale for $1250.00 when she is completed. She will come with a full four piece wardrobe which includes a chemise, pantalettes, peticoat and a dress, with painted boots.

Hannah
Hannah recently came to join my Izannah family from the collection of another of my dear friends, Edyth. ❤ I’m honored that she has entrusted me with one of her treasures.
Hannah is 18 inches tall and has such a sweet expression. Just like Lily #2, both of these Hannahs will be for sale once I have finished them. Yes, they also cost $1250.00, have painted boots and come with a full set of clothing made from antique fabrics and notions. 🙂

If you have any questions about these dolls, or would like to purchase one of them, please call me (860-355-5709 during east coast business hours) or email me (paula@asweetremembrance.com anytime). As a special birthday treat Isabeau, Zanna, Ismay, Isane, Izzybelle and the original Hannah have been busy piecing together quilt tops to go along with the Lilys and Hannahs that are purchased during this three day weekend. More about their quilting party later on… Just one more reason to keep checking back in through out the next three days 🙂
Feeling Creative?
For anyone who has the urge to try making an Izzy of their own I currently have two of my Izannah Kits ready to go.

Furniture Tag Sale
The girls were all very enamored of the article they read in Antique Doll Collector about an Izannah Doll House. So when I asked them what they would like to include in our birthday weekend they all resoundingly said “Let’s have a tag sale of all of the doll furniture, so other Izannahs can furnish a doll house too!” Consequently all of my antique doll furniture is on sale at 10% off from 9/25 – 9/27. The sale price does include free shipping to U.S. addresses. Click here to shop the furniture sale.

That’s All For Now…
Come back to see us at 9:00 a.m. eastern time for our continuing birthday party adventures.
A Busy Week!
The girl’s and I are in the midst of preparing for the big day on Friday!

More Photos of the Two Painted Composition Heads I Currently Have Available for use with My Izannah Walker Doll Making Kits
3/11/15 2nd update – both heads are now sold. Thank you! The sun is being much more cooperative today and providing nice soft light, just perfect for taking photos! Photos have been something of a challenge for me lately, due to the 2+ feet of snow cover outside my door. Not only has it made it impossible to take outdoor photos, but I can’t even open the barn door that I would need to walk through to get to all of my lighting equipment! Yes, I do actually own professional photography gear 🙂 , even if my photos don’t look like I do! – LOL
Sooooooooo, a few minutes ago I took additional photos of the painted heads that I posted yesterday. I wish I could show them to you in person, because they look so much richer and more vibrant when they are right in front of your eyes. They have a very subtle aged paint surface that does not show up well in photographs. Actually the best way to see the paint surface is to go over to my eBay auction and use the zoom feature on the first photo of doll head #2.
HEAD #1 SOLD
Same information as yesterday’s post: If you are interested in purchasing this head please email me at paula@asweetremembrance.com or call me at 860-355-5709 during east coast business hours. The head sells for $375.00 with the full kit or $340.00 if you already own one of my Izannah kits or classes.

To enhance the baby like look of her face, I chose a rather uncommon Izannah hair style for her. The Carmel Doll Shop once had a magnificent antique Izannah Walker doll with hair painted similarly. If you frequent their website, you may remember her. She was dressed in an amazing off white dress with a great deal of white braid work trim and she wore a necklace of white beads. This hair style has very short wispy center parted bangs, with little fringes of hair at the temples brushed towards the face and six ringlets at the back of the head. Six is a very unusual number of long curls for an Izannah Walker doll, it is much more common to see five or seven. The large Izannah that I reproduce has nine.

HEAD #2 SOLD
I’ve listed this head as Buy It Now on eBay. Click here to view my auction listing. SOLD

If you would like to see more photos of these two composition heads, simply scroll down the page to the previous post.
UNPAINTED HEADS
If you are feeling adventuresome, I have one Izannah Kit, with an unpainted head up for auction on eBay and I also have another kit with an unpainted head in stock and ready to ship immediately that may be ordered through my website.
BOTH ARE NOW SOLD – Painted Head Available for Use with my Izannah Walker Doll Making Kits

HEAD #1 SOLD

I am excessively fond of the way this head turned out! I debated long and hard about whether or not I should paint her and if I did, if I should offer her for sale, since technically she is not a perfect reproduction of the original Izannah Walker doll I made her mold from. I’m extremely glad that I decided that a little variety is sometimes a very good thing.

Two Dolls Available to Celebrate an All American Christmas With You!

I have two very special dolls available for sale now, just in time for Christmas. Zanna and Izzybelle would love to bring the look and feel of an antique New England Christmas to your house. Both of the girls have very “old” paint finishes that are perfect for anyone who loves early primitive antiques ❤

Izzybelle SOLD Thank you for looking. Izzybelle and I wish you a very Merry Christmas!
Now SOLD. I absolutely adore Izzybelle! I love her so much that I was tempted to keep her for myself 🙂 She has such a sweet thoughtful expression.
Izzybelle is 14 inches tall and has a body covering of antique blue glazed cotton. She has underclothing and a flutter sleeve dress made from antique fabric. You can scroll down the page to see many more photos of Izzybelle in my blog posts from the UFDC convention and Izannah’s 197th birthday party. Izzybelle is priced at $1250.00 with free shipping to U.S. addresses. She isn’t up on my webiste yet, but will be soon. In the meantime you may email or call me if you are interested in buying her. paula@asweetremembrance.com 860-355-5709.

Zanna

Zanna is 17-1/2 inches tall. She has black painted boots with scallop tops and a second skin made from antique brown glazed cotton. All of the fabrics and laces used in making her clothing are antique. Zanna may be adopted for $1250.00 and ships free of charge to any United States address. You can purchase her directly from my website by clicking here. Or if you prefer, you may email or call me. paula@asweetremembrance.com 860-355-5709

Zanna has decided to hang Miss Liberty, a red, white and blue spun cotton ornament on the top of the Christmas tree. I haven’t had time to make too many spun cotton ornaments this year. I’ve just shipped out the last of the pre-ordered ornaments and have one Miss Liberty left for sale in time for Christmas. Just like Izzybelle, she isn’t posted for sale on my website yet. Miss Liberty is $65.00 with free U.S. shipping. Email or call if you would like to add her to your ornament collection. paula@asweetremembrance.com 860-355-5709
Printed Face Rag Doll

This 18 inch doll has a printed cloth face and is my version of a Sunbonnet Sue. She has a soft aged muslin body that is filled with cotton stuffing. Her dress is made from an antique blue paisley fabric and has a vintage navy velvet ribbon sash. Her bonnet is made from an antique hand crochet doiley. She is $89.00 and includes free shipping to U.S.addresses.
I also sell just the printed face for $8.00, if you’d like to use one to make a doll of your own. Click here
* The quilt behind the girls is an amazing antique silk tumbling blocks quilt. If you are intrigued with the red, white and blue wool ball Izzybelle is lounging against, I do have a few in stock on my website. Whimsical Victorian Puzzle Balls 17-inch circumference – $45.00, 20-inch circumference – $55.00.
