No “Third Thursday” this Month
Thanks to all of you, orders have been flooding my in-box ever since last month’s Third Thursday! So I’m not having a “Third Thursday” for July. Instead I’m going to concentrate on finishing up existing orders and getting them shipped and on their way! Happy Third Thursday! This is my (almost) monthly introduction of new dolls, doll clothing and doll accessories ❤
Today my offerings include the third reproduction of Charlcie SOLD, a 23 inch reproduction Izannah Walker doll. she comes with a wonderful wardrobe. I also have two red and white dress for my 18 – 19 inch dolls, they would also work for Anna since she is a bit chubbier than the other smaller dolls. Plus something exciting! Limited edition greeting cards and badges, plus a larger cut & stitch Isabeau printed dolly.
Charlcie SOLD – $2200.
This is my third reproduction of Charlcie. The original doll is one that I purchased for my own collection, and is only an Izannah Walker head on a c.1900 baby doll cloth body, so I will be making her a new reproduction body. The antique Izannah Walker doll is named Charlcie, after my great-grandmother, Charlcie Savannah Suzybelle Walker.
This Charlcie is 23 inches tall. Her body is made of new 100% cotton, stuffed with organic cotton stuffing. Her head is pressed cloth and is made of silk stockinette, which has been painted with multiple layers of artist’s oils, as have her arms and legs. Her “second skin” body covering is made from antique raspberry pink glazed cotton. She is dressed entirely in antique fabrics, laces, and buttons. Her clothing includes a chemise, split pantelettes, a petticoat, two dresses, a nightgown and an apron. The pink dress is made from an antique woven check cotton. The skirt of the dress has hand sewn cartridge pleating (at the top instead of gathers). The blue dress is an antique indigo and white print cotton. Her nightgown is a re-purposed antique baby gown and her apron is made from two antique double pink fabrics. It took me approximately 140 hours (of actual working time) to create the doll and clothing. I made her using the same methods and same materials (with just one or two exceptions where the materials are no longer available and I’ve had to use modern equivalents) that Izannah Walker used to make the original dolls.

Directions For Making a Little Dress for my Tiny Cut & Stitch Printed Izzies
For everyone who requested it, here are the instructions for making a simple little dress for my Cut & Stitch printed fabric Izzies ❤
Little Cut & Stitch Doll Dress
This is a quick little dress that you can make for dolls made from my cut and stitch fabric Izzy dolls.
When I make this dress I use the selvedge edge of the fabric as the “hem” of the skirt and sleeves – make sure there is NO PRINTING on the selvedge you are using. If you don’t want to do this you will have to add extra length to accommodate a hem.
All seam allowances are ¼ inch. All seams are hand stitched.
Cut 1 – 3.5 in. x 9 in. rectangle of fabric with a selvedge along one 9 in. edge.
Cut 1 – 2.25 in. x 6.5 in. rectangle of fabric.
Cut 2 – 1.25 in. x 2.5 in. rectangles of fabric with selvedge edges along the 2.5 inch sides.
Fold the 3.5” x 9” rectangle in half with right sides together and sew the 3.5” edges together. Turn to the right side. Sew a running stitch around the top edge of the skirt, place on doll and draw up the thread to fit the doll’s waist.
Fold the 2.25” x 6.5” rectangle in half with right sides together and sew the 2.25” edges together. Turn to the right side. The seam you’ve sewn is a side seam. Fold the fabric “tube” so that the side seam is along one edge and the fold is along the opposite edge. Cut 2 “U” shaped armholes – one centered on the side seam and the other on the side fold.
Fold one 1.25” x 2.5” inch rectangle in half with right sides together and sew the 1.25” edges together. Turn to the right side. Repeat with the 2nd rectangle.
Center the sleeve seams in the bottom of the “U” shaped armholes. Stitch in place. Turn the neck edge of the bodice under ¼ inch and sew a running gathering stitch around the neckline, put bodice on doll. Draw up the thread to fit the doll’s shoulders. Sew a gathering stitch around the bottom waist edge of the bodice and draw up the thread to fit the doll’s waist. Tuck the waistline seam allowances to the inside and sew the bodice and skirt of the dress together.
* By adjusting the measurement, this same basic dress can be used to dress a Frozen Charlotte or HItty ❤

I made her using the same methods and same materials (with just one or two exceptions where the materials are no longer available and I’ve had to use modern equivalents) that Izannah Walker used to make the original dolls.

Tiny Cut & Stitch Fabric Doll Panels
Fun project ideas using my cut and stitch fabric doll panels ❤
I’ve always been very fond of all of the printed cut and sew dolls from the late 19th & early 20th century eras. Here are my versions! They are a combination of printed cloth dolls and photos of some of the antique dolls in my collection.
Most of my printed dolls are 8-1/2 inches tall. Though there are a few exceptions. Each doll panel that you buy includes two mirrored doll images, so that you can sew them together back to back, or use them separately with a plain fabric backing, or for applique work. The dolls are printed on high quality 100% cotton fabric and are completely washable. There is extra fabric surrounding each doll that will allow for a ¼ inch seam allowance. The dolls may be sewn with right sides together, turned and stuffed, machine stitched from the front side, trimmed and stuffed, or appliqued onto other projects. They may also be cut out and used for journaling and other multi-media projects. Add bits of fabric, lace, crepe paper and Dresden trims to create doll clothing.

Some project ideas include:
– Sew back to back for Christmas ornaments, so the “front” side is always on view.
– String together into a banner to hang across mirrors, windows or mantles.
– Hang individually from cupboard doors or chandeliers.
– Make into a mobile.
– Stuff with lavender and use as drawer and closet sachets for your finest linens and clothing.
– Fill with cedar shavings and place among your doll and bear collection to repel moths.

Welcome to my Third Thursday for March ~ Celebrating the Joy of Creating!
I’m doing something a tiny bit different for this month’s release of new dolls… This month I’m focusing on something for those of you who long to experience the pleasure of creating an Izannah Walker doll yourself ❤ I’ve made up a bunch of my Izannah Walker Doll Making Kits and a few extra papier-mache heads, in case anyone who already has a kit, or my Izannah Walker Dollmaking Class, needs an additional head. Normally I make the kits one at a time, after you place your order, so there is a wait of at least 5 weeks before they ship.

I have four full kits and three extra heads that can ship out on Monday. After those are gone any additional orders will be made to order and won’t ship out for at least 5 weeks. My kit will enable you to make a faithful representation of an 18 inch antique Izannah Walker doll. This new kit is less challenging than my Izannah Walker Doll Making Class, which teaches you to make Izannah’s traditional pressed cloth heads. Instead, the kit comes with a molded composition head, cast in a mold made directly from Isane, an antique Izannah Walker doll in my collection. Also included in the kit are patterns for the doll’s body, under garments and two dresses plus a 31-page instruction booklet filled with detailed color photographs. For February’s (snow delayed) Third Thursday I have two one small little Izzy’s who are looking for loving homes ❤ The larger doll is made from my mold of the antique Lizzybit. She is 16 inches tall. Her smaller companion is 14.5 inch tall Izzybelle.
This month’s theme is little sisters, with a focus on paint surface details. Both of these dolls present an aged appearance, like that of original surviving antique Izannah Walker dolls. Some of you, who follow my Izannah Walker Journal, will be familar with the original, highly adventuresome Izzybelle. You’ll know that she has gone through some rough times and has been greatly loved during her long lifetime. For this particular younger sister of Izzybelle I have removed some of the original doll’s worst damage, leaving you this glimpse of how pretty and sweet the original doll must have been in her youth. ❤
The fabric for the doll’s dresses is a wonderful previously unused mid-19th century dot print. The color is reminiscent of sunny summer marigolds, ripe autumn pumpkins, and the golden hues of seashells on a windswept beach…

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the snow on Thursday morning will be tolerable. If it is too bad I’ll need to chauffeur back and forth to nursery school.
