Today is a cool rainy day, much too wet to garden, with persistent downpours that make the walk out to my studios seem very uninviting. So I’ve decided that it would be an excellent morning to sit next to the fire and share photos of my own adventures in wonderland… On Saturday baby Cloe came to stay with us while her parents went out and about. It was the perfect time to play dress up with the Izannahs and explore a bit of their new house!

Cloe and Lily #2 whiled away the afternoon playing in the kitchen of the doll house, with a brief intermission for Cloe to change her dress. ❤

Once again I am honored to announce that I was chosen for inclusion in Early American Life’s Directory of Traditional American Craftsman. The August 2015 issue of EAL, which includes the directory, has just been mailed to subscribers and should also be out on newsstands soon. This is the 32nd time I’ve been in the directory, many years in more than one category, and each and every time has been just as thrilling as the first! It gives me such a warm feeling to know that the highly knowledgeable jurors, made up of museum professionals and other experts, have closely examined my work and named me as one of the top craftsmen working in my field(s).
Young Miss Isane traveled to Delaware earlier this spring to take part in the EAL directory photo shoot at Winterthur Museum. She had a wonderful time posing and exploring Winterthur. Now that she has returned safe and sound, she is looking for a new home to call her own.
6/22/15 UPDATE SHE IS NOW SOLD Isane is 18 inches tall and is one of my all cloth, reproduction Izannah Walker dolls. She has two painted ringlets in front of each ear and a row of five more along the nape of her neck. Isane has bare feet, with stockings sized down from antique socks, and two pairs of hand made leather shoes – one to match each of her dresses. She is wearing a chemise, pantalettes trimmed with pintucked ruffles, a cotton petticoat and an embroidered woolen petticoat. Her floral printed white dress is modeled after the dress worn by the Izannah Walker doll owned by the Worthington, Ohio Historical Society. I am excessively fond of that doll and she was my inspiration for this Isane.
Her second dress is made from prussian blue and olive brown print fabric, with short ruffled sleeves and a growth tuck in the skirt. All of her clothing is made from antique fabric, laces and buttons. A signed copy of the magazine will accompany her to her new home. Isane may be adopted for $1675.00. Printed Face Rag Doll
This is a prototype doll that I made for students in my Izannah Walker doll making class. I made alternate heads that worked with the class patterns.
This 18 inch doll has a printed cloth face and is my version of a Sunbonnet Sue. She has a soft aged muslin body that is filled with cotton stuffing. Her dress is made from an antique blue paisley fabric and has a vintage navy velvet ribbon sash. Her bonnet is made from an antique hand crochet doiley. I’ve had some requests for additional photos of Isadora, which made her blush! Once she overcame her shyness, she was happy to pose in front of the cameras for a few more shots. She is sitting on an unfinished antique quilt top that has quite a bit of plum colored fabric in it. I think I probably have enough to make two dresses 🙂

ISADORA IS NOW SOLD – THANK YOU! Meet Isadora, she is the very first doll made from one of my three new molds. She has a sweetly rounded head and features. Her paint is lightly distressed to give her the aged appearance of the original she was reproduced from. I made Isadora’s dress from a very old wool challis paisley shawl. She has an antique bar pin at the center of her neckline.

Little Izzybelle is just 14 inches tall and is the second doll I’ve made from this new mold. I’m sure you all recognize her from her resemblance to her sister 🙂 I’m in the midst of finishing her dress, which will hopefully be done tomorrow. In the mean time you can get a good view of her undergarments in these photos. Beneath all the layers of white cotton and lace she has an antique blue glazed cotton second skin.

Isabeau #4 WAS LISTED ON EBAY, BUT HAS NOW SOLD. I love her sweet, shy expression and the way her head cocks slightly to one side, as if she is bending nearer to listen to secrets being whispered in her ear. She is wearing a dress made from a rare piece of c.1850 double violet fabric. The dress has one growth tuck in the skirt and a false hem made from antique purple and white polka-dot fabric. Isabeau #3 SOLD
A sweet, demure 17-1/2 inch tall doll from my Isabeau mold. She has two ringlets in front of each ear and five curls at the back of her neck. Her black painted boots have scalloped tops. She is currently dressed in a knee length chemise with gathered lace ruffles at the neck and sleeves, a petticoat and pantalettes. The black dress she is shown wearing above and below has been sold, so here is your chance to pick your favorite style of Izannah dress and choose an antique fabric from my stash. Anna #3 SOLD
Anna #3 is a smaller 16-1/2 inch tall doll. She has short wispy hair in front and in back. Her dress fabric comes from an 1830’s dress which was remade in the 1890’s and has provenance. I’ll send a copy of the note that came with the fabric along with the doll. the rest of her wardrobe consists of a hip length chemise, pantalettes, a petticoat and painted boots with scalloped tops. Anna #3 can be yours for $1250.

Early this evening I put the finishing touches on my latest reproduction Izannah Walker doll. I’ve been working pretty much non-stop on her and a few of her sisters for the past several weeks. I love this doll! I made her specifically for someone who is as enamored with the construction of Izannah Walker dolls as I am. If you have studied Izannah’s dolls closely, you will know that some of her dolls have very visible stockinette and head seams that show every stitch where they were joined together. I wanted that same look for this doll and I think that I have managed to capture all those details that show this doll’s two piece pressed cloth head construction to great advantage. She has a very sweet, serene expression and shows a moderate amount of “age” and wear. She has a bit of flaking and crackled paint, along with some worn and rubbed areas, just where little hands would have held and cuddled her.
At the moment she is dressed in pantalettes, a long chemise, a petticoat and a red and white cotton print dress. All of her clothing fabrics and second skin are antique. I do have a very good stock of antique fabrics at the moment, due to my summer shopping adventures; so if you would like to order additional clothing to go along with her I have some fantastic colors and prints for you to choose from.
