My Newest Izannah Walker Doll is Being Unveiled LIVE Today on facebook!

Paula Walton’s doll-making notes

For February’s (snow delayed) Third Thursday I have two one small little Izzy’s who are looking for loving homes ❤ The larger doll is made from my mold of the antique Lizzybit. She is 16 inches tall. Her smaller companion is 14.5 inch tall Izzybelle.
This month’s theme is little sisters, with a focus on paint surface details. Both of these dolls present an aged appearance, like that of original surviving antique Izannah Walker dolls. Some of you, who follow my Izannah Walker Journal, will be familar with the original, highly adventuresome Izzybelle. You’ll know that she has gone through some rough times and has been greatly loved during her long lifetime. For this particular younger sister of Izzybelle I have removed some of the original doll’s worst damage, leaving you this glimpse of how pretty and sweet the original doll must have been in her youth. ❤
The fabric for the doll’s dresses is a wonderful previously unused mid-19th century dot print. The color is reminiscent of sunny summer marigolds, ripe autumn pumpkins, and the golden hues of seashells on a windswept beach…
The dolls and extra dress are offered for sale on a first come basis. The way it works is simple. If you would like to purchase one of the dolls, or the dress, email me at paula@asweetremembrance.com. I’ll go by the time stamp when I receive your email to determine whose request is first.
The dolls are $1250.00 each, and the dress is $225.00, which includes free shipping to any address in the continental U.S. Dolls are mailed via USPS Priority Mail and are insured for their full value. International Orders will be charged exact postage + a $10.00 handling fee for all international locations, except Canada, to help off-set the time it takes me to deal with customs forms – and in many cases the requirement that I actually take the package to the post office rather than scheduling it for pick-up.
Payment may be made via PayPal, credit card, personal check, or lay-away. Sales tax is 6.35% if I am shipping to a Connecticut address.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the snow on Thursday morning will be tolerable. If it is too bad I’ll need to chauffeur back and forth to nursery school. In that event, the dolls will still post at noon – but I won’t be able to access and answer emails right away. So it may be some time before you will know if you were the first person to request a particular doll…

February is a month of snow & ice here in New England… even more so this particular February. Winter wonderland beauty brings it’s own challenges.
In deference to Mother Nature, and her dearest companion the Snow Queen, my February “Third Thursday” will be delayed 1 week and will be rescheduled for Thursday February 28th @ Noon Eastern Standard Time. Join me here at my Izannah Walker Journal as the dolls and I bid farewell to the month of February and introduce you to my newest reproduction Izannah Walker dolls available for sale ❤
The theme for this month’s dolls is small…

Please check back here between now and February 28th for a few peeks of February’s dolls… and in the mean time enjoy the winter snow days that come your way!

Welcome to my December 2nd Pop Up Shop, with offerings themed especially for St. Nicholas Day! Many years ago, when my sons were quite young, we lived in Minnesota where my children’s nursery school and many of our neighbors celebrated St. Nicholas Day on December 6th. On the evening of December 5th the children would put their shoes by the front door and leave carrots in the shoes for St. Nicholas’ horse. In the morning they would discover that St. Nicholas had filled their shoes with small toys and treats. ❤ My boys always loved this early December celebration, which heralded in the Christmas season. It was one of my favorite things too… after all what could be better than a holiday celebration in which shoes play a major role? You can probably guess that means I am extremely partial to shoes, which I freely admit 🙂 Doll shoes, baby shoes, new shoes, old shoes… I love them all! So in honor of St. Nicholas Day, and shoes, I am offering the following items for sale.

It’s a busy day in the doll’s house, as the dolls decorate the parlor and set out their shoes for St. Nicholas. Down in the kitchen freshly baked gingerbread has been left to cool, before being made into into houses…. Drawn by the irresistible smell of their very favorite food, a trio of bears have come to call & made themselves at home.

D – $95.00 Adorable white button baby shoes and spun cotton carrots. These shoes originally had something glued to the front of them, I have no idea what that was as nothing but a trace of glue remained. I’ve made them crepe paper rosettes, but you could certainly remove the rosettes and add your own trimmings. These shoes close with white mother of pearl buttons, two of which are missing. If you would like replacement buttons, I can add two antique buttons, but I don’t have an exact match.
E – $70 Pale blue and black button up baby shoes w/ spun cotton carrots.

J – $30.00 Embroidered ankle strap leather shoes. Another pair that would be very sweet on a large teddy bear.
These next seven pairs of shoes are very worn children’s shoes that I stockpiled when I was making very big bears. I dressed the bears in vintage 1920’s – 1940’s romper suits and dresses with these shoes on their feet ❤ I still love that look! Adorable on teddies, or cute displayed in prim rooms!

Gingerbread Color Vintage Mohair Bears

Z – $44.00 Unique Vintage Baby Bear. I’ve never seen a bear like this before. She wears a pink oil cloth bib and has a hinged metal mouth, with a hole that leads to her “tummy” which is accessed via a zipper in her back. I’m assuming that the idea is that a child could “feed’ her, then the “food” could be removed by unzipping her back. Sewn joints, considerable moth damage, but still very cute in a zoomy kind of way 🙂 To top everything off she is wearing pink shoes!
AA – $35.00 Happy, Hug-able, Vintage Mohair Bear w/Velvet Paw Pads. Cute fully jointed bear. Some moth damage and a loose neck joint which makes it possible for the head to crock to one side and nod, which is actually very charming. ❤
BB – $95.00 Handmade fully jointed bear, antique white mohair, rod jointed arms and legs, disk jointed neck, glass eyes. My own original design ❤

Thank you for coming to my December 2nd Pop-Up Shop ❤

😦 Unfortunately I am going to have to postpone tomorrow’s Third Thursday… I’ve pulled a muscle in my shoulder doing a bit too much last minute fall garden clean-up. So I suppose a better title to this post would be “An Unexpected Minor Injury Day” – LOL! I’ve been trying to sew and finish up tomorrow’s offerings, but it looks like that is just not going to happen. My stitching and painting are both horridly clumsy… So I’m giving up, taking some Advil and propping a heating pad on my shoulder. I should be better soon, and when that happens the dolls and I will either expand December’s Third Thursday or we’ll do something fun, perhaps a Christmas Pop Up Shop! ❤
All items sold on a “first come” basis. Email me at p.walton.asweetremembrance@gmail.com to purchase. Paypal, credit cards, checks or money orders accepted for payment. Lay-away may also be arranged. Free priority mail shipping & full insurance to any U.S address. International orders ~ exact postage + $10 handling fee to help off set the extra time required for international shipping. No handling fee for Canada.
❤ At the current time I am not accepting any more custom orders. Once I manage to work through my backlog, I’ll start taking orders again ❤ If you have a particular doll or dress on your “wish list”, comment below. I’ll take “wishes” into consideration when making items for future Third Thursdays!

Two years ago I was fortunate to welcome an amazing Izannah Walker doll to my doll family. I eventually decided to name her Josephine after one of my father’s grandmothers, Henrietta Josephine Wallace Prather. https://izannahwalker.com/2016/11/01/lost-in-a-daydream-of-past-childhoods/
Last year I was discussing Josephine with Monica Bessette. Monica told me that she was just sure my Josephine was the doll called “Tilly Lamb” in the book Your Dolls and Mine A Collectors Handbook by Janet Pagter Johl. In further discussion Monica also mentioned that Josephine is pictured in The Collector’s Encyclopedia of Dolls by Dorothy S. Coleman and Elizabeth A. Coleman. Josephine and I are very thankful to Monica for helping bring Josephine’s full name to light. Now she is Tilly J. Lamb! All of her sisters here at the doll’s house are following my mother’s family tradition of calling the siblings by their middle names, so she continues to be called Josephine, as well as Tilly J. Lamb on official occasions. ❤

On Tuesday I introduced you to Tilly J. Lamb’s younger sisters, my first four reproductions of sweet Josephine. Two of them have already found wonderful new homes. Miss A. Lamb and Miss D. Lamb are still looking for doll families of their very own. https://izannahwalker.com/2018/09/25/meet-the-lamb-sisters-4-dolls-available-for-sale-happy-201st-birthday-izannah-part-4/

Both sisters are dressed in long sleeved brown dresses, made from antique fabric. They will come with an antique petticoat, pantalettes and a chemise made from antique fabric, Two brass brooches, one at the neck and a slightly smaller one at the waist, and a tiny pincushion. The pincushions are like the ones shown in the American Girl’s Book by Miss Eliza Leslie, although they are a traditional form that dates back at least to the later part of the 18th century. Their dresses were made using a pattern taken from an original Izannah Walker dress, and are perfect for gardening since the long sleeves protects the girl’s pale skin from excessive sunlight and the practical brown fabric does not show dirt. ❤ Yet the dresses look sweet enough for a party with the addition of a few accessories. The dolls are $1575.00 each, which includes free insured shipping to any U.S. address, with no sales tax unless they are shipped to CT. They are being sold on a first come basis and will be ready to ship out at the beginning of next week. Paypal, check, money order, credit cards and lay-away accepted. Please email p.walton.asweetremembrance@gmail.com to purchase or with questions. I’ll go by the time I receive your email if more than one person asks to buy the same doll.
Miss A. Lamb $1575.00 20 inches SOLD
Miss D. Lamb $1575.00 20 inches SOLD

One of the truly amazing things about the reproductions of Tilly Lamb is the paint surface. All of her gentle wear and age is present in her new sisters. It’s hard to show you just how amazingly detailed it is….

The dolls are welcoming the Lamb sisters to today’s celebration. These four young misses are all made from a mold taken from Tilly J. Lamb. Tilly J. Lamb is mainly known as Josephine here at home, following my mother’s family tradition of calling the children by their middle names. The original Tilly Lamb joined my doll family slightly less than two years ago. These are the first reproductions of her that I have made. It’s been a very interesting adventure! The first thing I noticed about these dolls is that it appears as if dolls made from Tilly’s mold are going to have a mind of their own. More so than any other doll, they each come out of the mold looking like individuals. That’s true for all of Izannah’s dolls as well as my reproductions, because pressed cloth is a softer, less rigid method of molding heads… but these dolls in particular show that more than the others. It’s something that I personally love about Izannah’s dolls. ❤
The next very striking thing about these doll is their paint surface. You can clearly see all of the wear and paint loss that Tilly accrued during her lifetime reflected in these reproductions. They show their age, but in a very graceful refined manner. Tilly is a larger 20 inch doll, that has slightly different boots without the center seam in them that you see on many of Izannah’s dolls. Her arms and legs are plumper and she has a different body proportion. Which means I had to completely redraft all of the body patterns especially for her.
All four of the sisters are dressed in long sleeved brown dresses, made from antique fabric.
