A Trip to Brimfield Yields Treasures!
On Wednesday my husband and I made our annual trek to Brimfield, MA. Three times a year Brimfield is filled to capacity with dealers selling antiques, vintage items and collectibles of all kinds. We usually only go in May, although we have occasionally gone in July, when the weather is blisteringly hot. We’ve never managed to go up in September, since fall is a busy time for us…
Brimfield is usually one of my major buying trips for antique fabrics and trims. This year I found slightly less fabric, but bought more antique silk velvet ribbon than I’ve come across in a long time.
Another item I came away with in abundance was petticoats. Women’s petticoats, baby petticoats and doll petticoats!!!
I even found a doll size mohair coat ❤
The dolls were quite excited when I carried in several new pieces of furniture for their house. I was lucky enough to find a tiny 1850’s jelly cupboard, a stretcher base table with a wonderful Christmas inscription on the underneath side, and an amazing little rope bed.
All in all a very successful expedition!
Lily #2 is SOLD
SOLD- Thank You! I’ve just finished making Lily #2’s pantalettes, petticoat and sun bonnet. Now that she is finished she is looking for a new home to call her own.
I am able to offer you reproductions of Lily due to the amazing generosity of my friend Susie, who owns the real Lily. I am currently almost finished restoring the original Lily and Susie very kindly told me that she wanted me to make a mold from her while she was here. I’ll be chronicling Lily’s restoration journey here in the upcoming weeks. Lily has a very classic Izannah head and at 17 inches is the middle stair step between my Isabeau and Izzybelle.

On Sunday I will be exhibiting at the 25th annual Jenny Lind Doll Club Doll Show at the
Crowne Plaza hotel, 1284 Strongtown Road, Southbury, CT. If you would like more

A Note About the Easter Bonnets
Do you remember turning acorn caps into doll dishes and using handkerchiefs for dolly diapers and shawls when you were a child? My mother used to help me fashion doll clothes out of objects we found around the house. I’m sure that this is a long standing mother and daughter tradition since I occasionally come across antique doll clothing that children have made from little bits of this and that.
I was sitting in my studio, thinking about Easter bonnets, when my eye happened to light on a pile of crocheted doilies… Suddenly I could just see them turning into beautiful, lacy Easter sunbonnets! I loved the idea of recreating one of my childhood traditions and I hope that you are as captivated by the bonnets and the story behind them as I am.

A New Birthday Dress
Carmel, California was one of the stops on our west coast vacation. Naturally I couldn’t go to Carmel without a shopping trip at the Carmel Doll Shop. I had a wonderful time browsing through the shop.
Michael and David were fantastic, even though they were away at a doll show, they arranged for one of their employees to come let me into the store. Thank you Samantha, you made my shopping a treat.
My find of the day was a great button front brown print day dress/morning coat that is just the right size for my 18 inch Izannahs. Every girl deserves a change of clothes :). Take a peek at my first antique Izannah modeling her “new” birthday dress.
Ironically the show Michael and David were doing was in Bellevue, Washington. We had been in Bellevue the day before and knew about the Doll Show, but I decided not to try to squeeze it in before we flew out to San Francisco. If I had known they were there I would have managed a brief stop on the way to the airport 🙂
We rounded out our day in Carmel by having tea at the Tuck Box teashop and buying licorice at the Cottage of Sweets (they have more than 50 varieties).
Since this dress looks so perfect on my Izannah, I’m planning on making a pattern from it, which will hopefully be ready for sale sometime next year.

Here are two wonderful black reproduction Izannah Walker dolls. I enjoyed making these doll immensely, but sadly they have turned out not to be as popular as I had hoped. Apparently there must have been a reason that Izannah Walker made so few black dolls

Doll Town is a new website opening Sunday night February 27th at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The idea behind the site is for a large group of doll artists to come together in one place and offer their dolls for sale to collectors. The woman behind the site is Jane DesRosier.

Black Izannah Walker Reproduction Doll in Cheddar Print Dress
This doll is dressed in a gown made from a reproduction cotton print fabric. It is a scaled down copy of a child’s dress in my collection. Her chemise is made of antique linen and trimmed in antique eyelet. Her pantalettes were made from a worn out vintage sheet, antique lace and antique button. She is wearing an antique petticoat that I cleaned and restored. I fashioned an apron out of scraps of an antique “cheddar” print fabric. I also made her a necklace of coral colored beads.

Black Reproduction Izannah Walker Doll in Pink Dress
This doll is wearing a reproduction of one of the original dresses worn by my antique Izannah Walker dolls. It is made from a wonderful antique pink and white homespun check fabric. Under her dress she is wearing a chemise, pantalettes and an antique petticoat.
I made her sunbonnet of antique double pink calico. The bonnet is a doll sized version of an antique bonnet in my collection. The brim is stiffened with individually cut strips of cardboard.
